This article is meant to inspire artists and creators alike, on how they can use a process called resonance to create. We will illustrate this in our case by giving an example of how one can create music on the tantric Goddess Kali. We will start with a description of Kali followed by a short description of the process of resonance (which in fact is a much deeper law than the law of attraction) and end by speaking about how a composer can use the law of resonance to make his creations.

About Kali

Kali is the first of the 10 wisdom Goddesses in the tantric tradition. She has black skin, four arms, open glaring eyes and a necklace of severed heads. She dances on the graves in the cemetary and laughs loudly and shrilly at the ignorance and attachments of us humans. She stands for the concepts of time and death, concepts which we humans fear and that is why she is portrayed as being so terrible.

A ghastly sight indeed, she will send shivers down the spine of most who do not yet know her mysterious ways. Now to a few words about resonance. But once you have understood her deeper meaning her grace will reveal itself to you.

About resonance

Tantra teaches us about the law of resonance which is in essence the law of attraction, just more profoundly described.

The universe consists of energy which vibrates with different frequencies. Energies with the same frequency will attract one another and start to ‘resonate’ together. In this process information is exchanged between the two energies.

We are continually moving through different resonance spheres during the day and our moods and physical well being is continually being affected by these spheres. If we are in a place where the resonance is “angry” we will ourselves become angry.

If we are in a place with a hectic on edge vibe such as a football stadium watching an exciting game, we will for sure soak up that energy and resonate with it. If the place is serene and calm we in turn will become serene and calm.

A similar resonance can exist in a landscape, a color, in a room etc. If the resonance is the same for these different mediums we will start to feel the same resonance no matter if we were in the landscape or in the room. Music is the most powerful resonator as it can very precisely convey a certain feeling or mood.

For example, if you listen to heavy metal you will enter into states of rage, hatred and destruction. You will enter into a state of resonance with the people who made the music and the state that they were in when they made the music. You will enter into resonance with all the people who listen to that music and who resonate with that state. You will start downloading all their negativity and hatred.

Alternatively if you listen to beautiful music you will enter states of beauty and harmony.

A very quick way to go into a specific mood or state in meditation is to start by listening to music which embodies that state. Music is extremely efficient in jump starting our desired mood.

Applying resonance in art

In the creation of music or any art form it is of utmost importance to actively study that subject which you wish to create your music on. You have to contemplate the subject and to immerse yourselves in the moods inherent in that subject. In this way a process of resonance starts filling you up with similar resonances.

By studying the subject/object on which you base your art work you will impregnate your art piece with the resonance of the studied object. Anybody who then contemplates your art will in turn be impregnated by that resonance.

Using resonance to create music for Kali

Contemplation upon Kali will lead you to pondering the mysteries of life, death and time. These are deep philosophical speculations which can be terrifying for those who cannot understand them.

The music created by such a contemplation on Kali will very likely also convey a feeling of terror. This can be done by using drones and strong percussive elements. Also the minor tonalities from Arabia and India give an aura of mystique and danger.

After a long contemplation on Kali, one would hopefully have a higher intuitive notion of life and death which will lead to an opening in the heart. This heightened feeling of love will then also be inherent in the music. Music with Kali has to convey this feeling of danger and terror but also this great opening of the heart which comes after understanding the deeper meaning of life and death.

I hope that the article gave you a taste of what it is to be a tantric composer using the law of resonance to create artworks for Goddesses!
